Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)

The suspenseful thriller "Vanishing on 7th Street" transports viewers to a world where darkness devours everything in its path, leaving only a small number of survivors to battle with terror, uncertainty, and survival.

Luke, a projectionist at a movie theater, awakens to an unsettlingly empty environment in the first scene of the movie. Detroit's streets are deserted, bereft of any traces of human habitation; all that's left are abandoned cars and dispersed personal items. Luke finds that people have mysteriously disappeared from the city, leaving no trace in their wake, as he strolls about it.

Luke soon comes across a small number of other survivors, a desperate bunch that includes Rosemary, a distressed woman trying to find her lost baby, Paul, a discredited television reporter, and James, a little boy left on his own after his family vanished. Together, they take cover in a pub that is lit by a single generator—the sole light in the otherwise pitch-black city.

The survivors gather in a group and understand that the darkness is more than just a physical lack of light; it is a malicious force that preys on those who follow it. More people are killed by the darkness with just their clothing and possessions left behind each time it moves forward. The dark seems to have a sentient, predatory quality, and the group must continually stay in the light to avoid it.

The survivors' supplies are running low and tensions are growing as they come to terms with the harsh truth of their circumstances, hour by hour. Driven by a desire to learn the truth behind the disappearance, Paul takes a flashlight and a camera and sets out into the dark in an attempt to record the phenomena and figure out how to put an end to it.

Rosemary, however, holds onto hope that her son will be found, despite the seemingly overwhelming chances against it. Luke assumes the position of guardian, keeping the lights on and the darkness at bay with his understanding of the electrical system and the projection room.

The survivors struggle to survive as they have nightmares and hallucinations that make it difficult to distinguish between truth and fantasy. Their anxieties and uncertainties appear to be fed by the darkness, which tests their willpower and pushes them to their limits.

The group comes up with a plan to flee the city and take sanctuary at a neighboring radio station that is transmitting a message of hope in a desperate attempt to survive. But the unrelenting darkness, which seemed destined to claim them all, follows them as they navigate the dangerous streets.

The survivors face the terrifying truth of what lies beyond and the actual nature of the darkness in a suspenseful conclusion. To preserve their survival in a last confrontation, they will have to face their worst fears and give up everything.

Ultimately, "Vanishing on 7th Street" is a chilling story of survival and atonement in which the darkness represents both the evil that exists within each of us and a real menace. Viewers are left feeling uneasy and confused as the credits roll, wondering what may be hiding in the shadows and what it really means to be lost in the dark.
