Skyline (2010) |
The 2010 sci-fi action movie Skyline immerses us in the center of a story about an extraterrestrial invasion. We follow Jarrod, a young guy traveling to Los Angeles with his expectant girlfriend Elaine to see Terry, a prosperous entrepreneur and boyhood buddy. When weird blue lights appear out of the sky during a night of partying, their peaceful holiday takes an unsettling turn.
Anyone staring at these captivating lights is rendered motionless and enters a trance-like condition, which is a dangerous impact. Then, utilizing enormous machinery, the aliens behind the lights collect this defenseless humanity, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.
Jarrod narrowly avoids being taken thanks to Terry's quick thinking. They are stranded in Terry's high-rise apartment, watching the horrific invasion unfold below, along with Elaine, Terry's wife Candice, and his assistant Denise.
The gang must adjust to this new world. They fortify themselves, rummaging through resources and attempting valiantly to decipher the aliens' intentions. Fear, running out of supplies, and the constant worry of being captured are all contributing factors to the rising tensions.
For the most of the movie, the aliens themselves are a mystery. Although their enormous ships and menacing harvesting devices are visible to us, the entities that created the technology are never completely disclosed. This gives the invasion a more ominous undertone and gives the invader the appearance of an unstoppable natural force.
But there's more to it than that. Some of the harvested humans are returned, seemingly unchanged, but with a chilling difference - glowing red eyes and a complete lack of empathy. These "hybrids" become extensions of the alien will, hunting down any remaining humans.
In this dire circumstance, Jarrod, Elaine, Terry, Candice, and Denise show themselves to be unlikely heroes. They discover how to put aside their differences and use their abilities to survive. Jarrod takes the lead thanks to his creativity. Elaine demonstrates that she is a strong combatant even if she is pregnant. Terry's wealth provides them with some advantages, while Candice and Denise offer valuable support.
The group forages for weapons, pulls off audacious escapes, and even leaves the relative safety of the apartment to seek assistance. But there's a price for survival. Along the journey, they must make tough decisions, endure horrifying acts of violence, and deal with the death of loved ones.
